Freebies !! I created a New Blog
I am making LO template's and I have started a new blog.........come take a look Sunflower Scraps
Organizing and Backing Up......
It is not if your computer will crash, it is WHEN
I read this the other day and it made me think.....Ok..now that I am into scrapping digitally I started to think about what would happen if my hard drive crashed.....I would lose all the elements and papers I have been collecting for over a year...
1000's of files :(
Same thing with all my beautiful pictures...I would be devastated....and even though my boyfriend is an IT manager (he can always save the day for everyone that has a virus or a computer crash) I decided I really needed to figure out a system to back-up and burn all my elements and pictures on CD's.
This is what I came up with.....I used CD-R cd's that hold 700mb each (actually each held many more files than I thought). I used Bridge from PSCS3 and pulled each folder...papers, frames, ect....onto the cd and hit BURN. TIme consuming but I finished all of my scrapbooking papers, background, letters...everything in about 8 hours.....running back and forth while things burned and verified. Once I burned each cd, I created a contact sheet.....ok, very cool extra in Photoshop. It takes any folder and automatically creates a contact sheet for you. I saved a few examples to show.
Then once I made the contact sheets ( I ended up with 80 sheets) I numbered them. I have a CD Labeler system and I made cute labels for each. On each CD I wrote its number (BACK UP CD NO 1), what was on the CD (Frames, Ribbons and Brads) then the contact sheet number that coordinated with files on cd and the burn date.
I purchased a binder that holds 4 cd on each page and zips all the way around ( I will add that picture soon)....I hole-punched my contact sheets and put them in a 3 ring folder that fits right inside the zipping binder. So I think I actually successfully did this on my own....and now I don't have to worry about lossing everything. Now to do my pictures......I am sure will take more than 8 hours :)
....but is worth the peace of mind.
